This is a post from gnome-blog. I really liked gnome-do’s twitter integration, and I’m hoping that gnome-blog will encourage to make more more posts to this blog. I’m deffinitely aiming at a more twitter-esque posting scheme (albeit with actual technical info snippets, and not random mind diarrhea).

I’ve kind of neglected this blog for a while, but I think I should at least use it for my personal note-taking and log-keeping on experiments, so it may just have more technical mumbo-jumbo than most people like, but you can filter that out by only nooking at non-technical categories in the post.

I’m also moving to India in about 2 weeks (end of July 2009) in case someone reads this and is wondering where I’m at.

I don’t get it.  If people were campaigning to abbolish interracial marriages, they would be labeled as racist bigots.  If they campaign to abbolish same-sex marriage it’s excused as defending our societal morals?!

This sounds like so many of the arguments I’ve heard against gay marriage that I can’t even cite them anymore.  Does the analogy simply never cross these people’s minds?  If we were talking about banning interracial marriage I’m sure there would be a shitload less support, but blatant segregation based on sexual orientation? That’s OK.

Maybe they’re just that dull.

As an aside the ‘pedia has a good section on the parallels with interracial marriage, and the section right afterward has some shameful situations where even a legal (Massachusetts) marriage wasn’t equivalent to a ‘hetero’ marriage (thanks DOMA).

And finally, this piece draws out more literal comparisons between the arguments in each case (a very ‘history reapeats itself’ analysis).

This only happens once in a blue moon. Yes it was a joke. No they didn’t stay much longer than 24 hours. Yes you will hopefully see this again someday. No I don’t think it looks good. Yes I did go out drinking. No I did not get beat up. Yes it looked better live.

Fact checking, proper citations, context-sensitive quoting, man I wish people took Journalism 101 (I know I haven’t ).  This is especially true with these ‘political campaigns’, I think both for Reps and Dems, but it would seem especially true for those GOP sock monsters.  I fell across this site with a seemingly good article on the GOP Convention’s ‘facts’ here.

I could just not pass up on this.  I’m watching the GOP Convention Live, and Palin just finished her speech (it’s all live here.  All this talk about taxes!  Man, *I* wish I didn’t pay taxes, and that the government just had a big money volcano full of bling.  That would be awesome.  Anyhow, here’s this credible tax breakdown source from the Tax Policy Center (currently down) on the left.  This article at CNN seems to sum it up pretty well.  All I gotta say is: fucking. shitshow.

So, in case anyone actually reads/stumbles upon/is misled to this page, I thought I might as well mention what I’m up to nowadays:  I’m currently on the end of a 3.5 month stint in the *cough* wonderful city of San Francisco (ok, I just hate the weather).  I’m interning at Yahoo! down in Sunnyvale, and I do actually enjoy the commute back and forth ever day: it gives me a time where I have to sit down and sort photos, or read a book, or learn about new things.  So yeah, I work in Operations there writing some backend tools.  I enjoy it quite a bit, and it’s cool to see how the real big boys do their stuff.

I’m heading back to Lyon on September 20th, and I’ll be there for at least another year going to school at INSA.  If you’re in the area definitely ping me and we’ll go drink.

So I’m trying to actually post to this a bit more often (please, don’t look at the dates). Anyhow, I got a chance to fly over San Francisco in a small Cesna the other day, and was able to get some pretty cool pictures. I took like 300, but I’m left with only 40 or so after mucho sorting. Enjoy.
